The Prospex collection carries that legacy forward, and the 1968 Modern Re-Interpretation series draws directly from the landmark ref. 6159-7001 — a technically groundbreaking diver with a crown positioned at four o'clock to allow passage through narrow underwater spaces. The SLA073J1 is a non-limited production piece, hand-assembled at Seiko's Shizukuishi Watch Studio in Morioka, Japan.

Reference SLA073J1 is a 42.6 mm stainless steel automatic diver's watch, 13.1 mm in thickness, with a screw-down crown at the four o'clock position in keeping with the original 1968 design. The teal-to-blue gradient dial carries a textured pattern inspired by the light of a diver's torch in an underwater cave, with applied hour markers and a date window between four and five o'clock. Hour markers, indices and the bezel are all coated in LumiBrite, with the minute hand and bezel pip in a contrasting green tone for fast elapsed-time reading. At its heart beats the Seiko Calibre 8L35, an in-house automatic movement based on the Grand Seiko 9S55 and developed specifically for dive watches, running at 28,800 vph with 26 jewels and a 50-hour power reserve. The dual-curved sapphire crystal carries an anti-reflective coating on the inner surface. The unidirectional rotating bezel features a black hard-coated stainless steel insert with a fully graduated 60-minute diving scale. Water resistance is rated to 200 metres. The watch is fitted on a stainless steel bracelet with a three-fold clasp with secure lock and push-button release.
