IWC Portugieser Chronograph Blue
Founded in Schaffhausen in 1868, IWC has built some of the most enduring designs in Swiss watchmaking — and none more so than the Portugieser, a collection born in the late 1930s at the request of two Portuguese merchants who wanted a wristwatch as precise as a marine chronometer. The IW371606, introduced in 2018, is the blue dial variant of the current Portugieser Chronograph — a watch that has been considered the most coveted model in the collection since its original launch in 1998.
Reference IW371606 is a 41 mm stainless steel automatic chronograph, 13 mm in thickness, with a slim fixed bezel that gives the dial an open, expansive character far beyond its actual diameter. The sunray blue dial carries applied silver-tone Arabic numerals, slender Feuille leaf hands and a peripheral quarter-second precision scale on the sloped flange — a detail inherited directly from the nautical precision instruments that inspired the original Portugieser. Two navy blue subdials sit symmetrically: a 30-minute counter at twelve and a small seconds register at six, both with concentric circle finishing. At its heart beats the IWC Calibre 69355, an automatic chronograph movement visible through the sapphire exhibition caseback. The convex sapphire crystal carries anti-reflective coating. Water resistance is rated to 30 metres. The watch is presented on a black alligator leather strap with a stainless steel folding clasp.
