Founded in Grenchen, Switzerland in 1856, Eterna is one of the oldest watch manufacturers in the country and the inventor of the ball-bearing rotor — a movement innovation so fundamental that it was later licensed to the entire industry and still underpins most automatic watches made today. The Royal KonTiki, named after Thor Heyerdahl's legendary 1947 Pacific raft expedition, has been Eterna's flagship sports watch since the 1970s. The GMT variant brings a second time zone to that heritage platform, powered by Eterna's own manufacture movement.

Reference 7740.40 is a 42.3 mm stainless steel automatic GMT watch, 13 mm in thickness, with a brushed and polished case and a distinctive five-pointed bezel — a direct reference to the Eterna brand emblem. The dark anthracite dial carries luminescent stick hour markers and matching hands, with an arrow-shaped GMT hand for instant second time zone reading and a date window at three o'clock. At its heart beats the Eterna Manufacture Calibre 3945A, a 30-jewel automatic movement with a 65-hour power reserve, visible through the sapphire exhibition caseback. The scratch-resistant sapphire crystal carries anti-reflective coating. The fixed five-point bezel is in brushed stainless steel. Water resistance is rated to 100 metres. The watch is presented on a black rubber strap with a stainless steel pin buckle.
