Since introducing Japan’s first diver’s watch in 1965, Seiko has built an unmatched heritage in professional dive watch design. The SJE097J1 was produced to mark a historic milestone: the 100th anniversary of Seiko-branded watches. Limited to just 1,000 numbered pieces worldwide, it draws simultaneously from two legends — the original 1965 62MAS that started it all, and the professional-grade Marinemaster of the 2000s that took Seiko’s dive watch standards to their highest point.

Reference SJE097J1 is a 39.5 mm stainless steel automatic diver’s watch, just 12.3 mm in thickness — the slimmest mechanical diver Seiko has ever produced, a remarkable achievement given the box-shaped sapphire crystal and the exhibition caseback it carries. The white “High Water” dial features a distinctive horizontal line pattern evoking moving water, with thick LumiBrite-coated baton hour markers, matching lume hands and the “Marinemaster” designation printed just below the Seiko logo at twelve. At its heart beats the Seiko Calibre 6L37, the first movement in Seiko’s new slim 6L series developed specifically for diver’s watches, with manual winding capability and a 45-hour power reserve. The box-shaped sapphire crystal carries anti-reflective coating on the inner surface — and the exhibition caseback, a historic first for a dedicated Seiko diver, shows the movement within alongside the individual serial number engraved on the caseback. The unidirectional rotating bezel carries a full LumiBrite diving scale. Water resistance is rated to 200 metres. The watch is fitted on a stainless steel bracelet with a three-fold clasp, push-button release and diver’s extension.
