Rolex Milgauss
Founded in 1905 and headquartered in Geneva, Rolex has set the benchmark for Swiss watchmaking for well over a century. The Milgauss occupies a uniquely fascinating corner of the Rolex catalogue — first introduced in 1956 for scientists and engineers working in high-magnetic environments, it was dramatically revived in 2007 and discontinued again in 2023, making every well-preserved example an increasingly collectable piece of horological history.
The Rolex Milgauss, reference 116400GV, is a beautifully distinctive 40 mm Oystersteel watch with a black dial featuring applied luminescent hour markers, vivid orange accents at 3, 6 and 9 o'clock, orange Arabic numerals on the outer minute track and — the detail that stops people in their tracks — the iconic lightning bolt-shaped orange seconds hand, a direct throwback to the original 1956 Milgauss ref. 6541. The signature green-tinted "Glace Verte" sapphire crystal casts a subtle but unmistakable warmth over the dial, a detail so costly to produce that Rolex famously chose not to even patent it. At its heart beats the in-house Rolex Calibre 3131, a Superlative Chronometer-certified movement with a blue Parachrom hairspring and a ferromagnetic inner shield protecting the movement against magnetic fields up to 1,000 gauss, running at 28,800 vph with a 48-hour power reserve. A smooth domed bezel and the Oyster bracelet with Easylink 5mm comfort extension complete the refined yet purposeful package. Water resistance is rated at 100 metres. A full service has been carried out by Tempus, and the watch comes with 2 years of warranty.
