Founded in 1848 in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland, Omega has shaped the course of watchmaking history with a legacy that extends from the ocean floor to the surface of the moon. The Speedmaster is without doubt the crown jewel of that story — and within the collection, the First Omega in Space holds a particularly special place, paying tribute to astronaut Wally Schirra who wore his personal CK2998 during the Mercury-Atlas 8 Sigma 7 mission on October 3rd, 1962, making it the first Omega ever to orbit the earth.

The Omega Speedmaster First Omega in Space, reference 311.32.40.30.01.001, is a well-executed 39.7 mm stainless steel chronograph with a beautifully varnished black dial featuring vintage-style Alpha hands, applied luminescent hour markers and three chronograph registers — small seconds at 9, 30-minute recorder at 3 and 12-hour recorder at 6 o'clock. The symmetric lug case design is a direct nod to the original CK2998 and gives this Speedmaster an unmistakably early, collector-correct character. The black aluminium tachymeter bezel completes the period-correct look. At its heart beats the legendary Omega Calibre 1861, the famous manual-winding movement that went to the moon — running with a power reserve of approximately 48 hours. A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal protects the dial, while the solid caseback is embossed with the original 1962 Seahorse medallion. Water resistance is rated at 30 metres. The watch is presented on a unworn brown leather strap and comes with an additional NATO strap. A full service was carried out in 2025.
