IWC responded with the creation of the Big Pilot’s Watch, originally known as the “Beobachtungsuhr” or “B-Uhr.”

The first Big Pilot’s Watch, introduced in 1940, featured a massive case, a prominent crown, and a simple, easy-to-read dial with large Arabic numerals and luminous hands. Its oversized design allowed pilots to wear it over their flight suits.

After the war, the Big Pilot’s Watch became available to civilian customers and gradually evolved in design while retaining its iconic characteristics. In 2002, IWC re-introduced the Big Pilot’s Watch, paying homage to its historical predecessor. Today, it is a symbol of aviation heritage, known for its distinctive style and exceptional precision, making it a cherished timepiece among aviation enthusiasts and watch collectors worldwide.
